The Internet Archive has been hit with a series of DDoS attacks this week that have taken the service offline. At the time of writing the site is back up.

It is thought that this is not the first breach according to industry sources who cite a previous incursion which saw the theft over 30 million records.

Blackmeta (A known DDoS group) assumed responsibility for the attacks along with a bizarre claim that the (Internet Archive) platform “belongs to the USA.”

Internet Archive founder Brewster Kahle has put out status updates on Twitter (X).

The Internet Archive is a non-profit headquartered in San Francisco that provides free access to a vast library of software and media, as well as hosting the Wayback Machine web archive.
