Wendy Hall

Wendy Hall is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom and is currently the Head of the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS). She was the founding Head of the Intelligence, Agents, Multimedia (IAM) Research Group in ECS.

She has published over 350 papers in areas such as hypermedia, multimedia, digital libraries, and Web technologies.

She is currently senior Vice President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, is Vice President of the ACM and is a Past President of the British Computer Society (2003-04). She is a member of the Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology, a member of the Executive Committee of UKCRC, chair of the new BCS Women's Forum an a non-executive Director of several companies and charitable trusts. She is the Chair of the Advisory Board of the new Company, Garlik Limited.

She has also recently been appointed as a founding member of the Scientific Council of the European Research Council.

She was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday honours list in 2000, and became a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the same year. She is also a Fellow of the British Computer Society, the Institute of Engineering and Technology (formerly the IEE) and the City and Guilds of London Institute.

She was recently awarded the 2006 Anita Borg Award for Technical Leadership.
