Rennie Fritchie

As a 'portfolio' worker Rennie Fritchie has a number of jobs and positions. Her main substantial post is Consultant on Strategy and Leadership working out of Mainstream Development. Baroness Fritchie is also Chair of the Independent Appointment Selection Board for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Vice Chair of the Stroud & Swindon Building Society.

In July 2005 she took her seat in the House of Lords as a Crossbencher. The Baroness is an Honorary Visiting Professor with a chair in Creative Leadership at York University, Pro- Chancellor of Southampton University, she holds Honorary Degrees from both these Universities and she holds Honorary Degrees from five other Universities. She is a Fellow of the Sunningdale Institute, part of the National School of Government. In addition she is a member of the Editorial Board of Whitehall and Westminster World, and she is also a member of the British and Irish Ombudsman Association and Chair of the Strategic Advisory Board for the Web Science Research Initiative.

Her charitable work includes Chair of the Chronic Pain Policy Coalition, Gloucester Ambassador for Gloucestershire First, Patron of the Pied Piper Appeal for a Children’s Hospital and Ambassador for St Andrews in Scotland.

On March 1st 1999 Baroness Fritchie was appointed Commissioner for Public Appointments, a role she held for almost seven years until 1st January 2006. As independent Commissioner her role was to regulate, monitor, advise and report on ministerial appointments.
